Though his life ended far too soon, those who knew David say his influence and spirit will continue to endure through the countless lives he touched.
Born in South Carolina to Amy and Phillip Polefrone, David demonstrated an early passion for learning and an exceptional curiosity about the world around him. He pursued higher education at the University of Maryland, where he studied economics and chemistry while becoming actively involved in student leadership and campus organizations. During his time there, he participated in Student Government, parliamentary debate, and Omicron Delta Kappa, earning admiration from peers and faculty for both his academic excellence and thoughtful leadership.
Friends from his university years remember David as someone who brought energy and intelligence into every room he entered. He possessed a rare ability to engage deeply with people, discussing subjects that ranged from science and politics to philosophy, culture, and current events. His conversations were often described as insightful and meaningful, reflecting both his sharp analytical mind and his sincere interest in understanding others.
After graduating with honors, David continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Organic Chemistry. Those who studied alongside him recall his dedication, work ethic, and endless curiosity, qualities that would later shape his professional path in data science.
Recently relocated to Washington, D.C., David had begun building an exciting career in the field of data science, embracing new opportunities and looking ahead to a future filled with promise. Family and friends took great pride in watching him pursue work that reflected both his intelligence and his desire to contribute meaningfully to the world around him.
Yet beyond his accomplishments, David was most deeply valued for his kindness and humanity. He was known for his warm personality, generous spirit, and unwavering encouragement of those around him. Friends remember his thoughtful advice, his ability to make people feel valued, and the genuine care he showed in every relationship. Whether through long conversations, heartfelt support, or simple acts of friendship, he created bonds that many described as lifelong and irreplaceable.
David is survived by his parents, Phil and Amy Polefrone; his sister, Joy Polefrone, and her husband, Nick Read; grandparents Jim and Judy; and many extended family members and close friends who will continue to cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Joe and Mae.
