The crash involving Oxford resident Richard DiMauro is a heartbreaking tragedy, especially given the severity of a head-on collision involving a vintage vehicle like a 1930 Model-A Ford.
According to police, the collision occurred Friday night near the intersection of Great Hill Road and Southwest Road in Seymour. Authorities said the 79-year-old was driving the antique Ford when it collided head-on with a Ford F-350 pickup truck around 8:55 p.m. Emergency responders transported DiMauro to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 41-year-old Seymour resident, was also hospitalized with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the crash, including roadway conditions near the curve by Southwest Road.
Friends, family members, and community residents are mourning the loss, sharing condolences and memories as the investigation remains ongoing. No additional official findings regarding the cause of the collision have yet been released by authorities.
